The wonderful months of alfresco dining are here! Bring out your flowy maxi dresses and sunnies! For the nine months in the year that we whine about how hot Dubai is, all of it is forgotten as soon as temperatures dip to a cool, pleasant early 20s come December.
One of our favourite things to do at this time of the year is visit RIPE market. Located in Zabeel Park, it includes over 150 stalls selling all kinds of art and craft, handmade jewellery, clothes, accessories, little knick knacks for the home, gifts, and the most exciting bit for us: food stalls.
We’d like to highlight five of our favourite finds from RIPE market this month. If you’ve been, you’ve probably tried these out already. If you haven’t, grab a picnic blanket and book, find a shady spot under a palm tree and make a day of it with your girl friends. Go early though so you can space out all the delicious food you’ll be eating!
Pao de Queijo (Cheese Buns) – HeartMade Artisanal Food
Warm bites of mini cheesy goodness in original, olive or zaatar flavours. You get four pieces in a cone and we’re pretty certain you’ll go back for more. They can also be bought frozen so you can enjoy them at home.
Zois Fine Foods
I love food stores and if Zois had a shop (it’s currently online only), think I’d be there everyday – tasting They make ‘gourmet handmade greek products’ like jams, spreads, olive oils, honey, etc. We were blown away by how fresh and tasty everything we tried was.
I picked this jar of carrot and tahina spread to bring home and absolutely love it! It’s great on toast in the mornings and is also perfect as a dip with cucumbers and red peppers – the perfect mid-day snack at work.
Milkshakes – 54 East
This place had the longest queue and everyone walked away with these gorgeous old-school glass bottles – so we had to check it out. I believe 54 East only does catering so unless you order for your event, the only place you can try their food is at RIPE market. This nutella milkshake was delicious and I’ll definitely be going back for the salted caramel next time!
Jerk sandwich – Fraiche
We haven’t been to Fraiche cafe and bistro yet but if this sandwich is anything to go by, we’ll need to go asap! The chicken is grilled on a hot griddle right in front of you, the bun is soft and the dipping sauce is delicious. Grab a handful of tissues though as it can get messy!
Zaatar pinwheels and spinach fatayer – Fait Maison
We stopped by this stall because it was set-up so beautifully with white painted crates for tables and colourful cushions. So glad we did because the zaatar pinwheels and spinach fatayer was really tasty!
Tell us – what are your favorites at RIPE market and what should we try next time?
