Breakfast is hands down the best meal of the day. Something I’m always excited to wake up early for. I’ve been known to set up breakfast dates with friends, especially on Friday mornings when everyone else would rather have a lie-in. Think about it – pancakes, waffles, eggs and bacon. Hollandaise sauce – Yum! If it’s an Indian breakfast – masala dosa and sheera. If it’s Asian – dim sum, miso soup and kaya toast. It’s a guaranteed feast!
Fortnum & Mason had me intrigued ever since I passed by it the other day while I was in Dubai Mall. I finally managed to make it there for my birthday last week, and it couldn’t have been a more special way to start the day.
The experience begins as soon as you enter on the ground floor. You’re immediately transported to what I imagine is quintessential, posh ol’ London. This retail store has shelves stocked with countless types of fine teas, biscuits, preserves, chocolates, candles – all in beautiful colourful boxes and tins. Perfect place to create pretty little Christmas hampers, methinks.
We saw a red carpet clad stairwell but instead took the elevator to the Tea Salon on the first floor where breakfast is served. The terrace has an impressive, unobstructed view of Burj Khalifa and lucky for us, we were early and had the entire place to ourselves!
Standing tall and proud. Burj Khalifa.
I had eggs Florentine which came topped with the brightest yellow, creamy, tangy hollandaise sauce.
My husband had perfectly done scrambled eggs on toast with salmon. If there’s any way to present eggs in a posh manner – these guys know how!
The plate of croissants came with two types of preserves on a three-tiered stand, and everything was served on fine bone china in gorgeous Tiffany blue tones. So lush!
I won’t lie, we felt very aristocratic. Combined with the polite and quick service – it was all very propah!
The third floor houses an ice cream parlour and I hear they serve the best sundaes. I dint get to try it so will have to make it back someday, if not for the ice cream then definitely to try their famous afternoon tea.
Fortnum & Mason is located in a three-storey standalone building in between Dubai Mall and The Address Hotel. Whether you’re in Dubai on holiday or a resident, if you’re celebrating a special occasion (baby showers anyone?) or you’re just glad it’s the weekend – Fortnum & Mason is a definite must-do!
