I’m completely smitten by Paris. The beautiful old buildings and the stories within them, streets lined with quaint little cafes, croissants and pastries and macaroons. Stylish old people. Boulangeries and fromageries. The wonderful accent. And of course – Tour Eiffel. The iron structure is not much to look at and yet, photos of it make my heart flutter with memories of a magical spring holiday in the French capital.
Two weeks after returning home, I couldn’t shake off the Parisian blues and that’s when I discovered the closest thing to the real deal, right here on Sheikh Zayed Road.
Fournil de Pierre was established in Paris in 1984 and only just made its way to Dubai in 2013. The décor is very chic with a high ceiling, floor tiles, wooden panels, velvet sofas, a huge display of pastries, artisan breads, and most importantly, French tunes playing softly in the background.
It’s the perfect place to catch up with girlfriends over coffee or share a pastry with your significant other. They also have a wide selection of breakfast, galettes and sandwiches, soups, salads and traditional hot dishes.
Here’s some of what I’ve tried:
Cassoulet L’Orientale. Slow cooked casserole with tender chunks of beef, potatoes, celery, carrots and white beans.
Tagliatelles aux fruits de mer. Pasta with fish and shrimp in a pink sauce. Rich and creamy.
Éclair café and tartlette chocolat banana
There are currently four branches in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road, Downtown Boulevard, JBR The Beach and Terminal 3 Dubai Airport. What are you waiting for? Allez!
