Remember the spartan race and why I did it? The “Nams 30 for 30” list as I call it. Well there was another thing on that list and that was to have a Michelin star dining experience. I know that there aren’t any Michelin starred restaurants in Dubai but there sure are chefs with multiple stars in the city. Given my list has been going very slowly (we are halfway through the year already…when and how did that even happen?), I was stoked when Nancy and I were invited to JG Kitchen – another thing to cross off the list with the hope of eating some glorious food. And glorious it was…
Three Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten from France has opened two restaurants at the Four Seasons Resort Dubai. Both in the same space, Jean-Georges Dining Room is the fine dining restaurant and JG Kitchen, your more everyday but still fairly upscale spot. Located on the lower lever, you can either take the stairs or the slowest elevator ever made. And given I am one for adventures, I chose the elevator. Both times. Moving along.
Once seated, non-alcoholic beverages made their way to our table.
I chose a lavender lemonade. It was the perfect blend of tart and refreshing
For food, we started with a chopped kale salad. It was fresh with a beautiful creamy sauce
I could have eaten three more plates of this Watermelon and feta salad. Watermelon anything is a welcome friend this summer
Crispy Sea Trout Sushi . This is just genius. The fish was served on a deep fried bed of rice. Who comes up with this genius stuff?
We were then served one of the best pizzas I have ever had and was an all clear table favourite – a Black Truffle and Fontina Cheese Pizza. The crust was nice and thin and the truffle wasn’t overwhelming
At this point, we were clearly full. Only to be told that we still had to make it through two more courses!
Roasted Sea Bass, Artichoke Heart with Mushroom-Yuzu Vinaigrette. The fish was perfection. And the vinaigrette it was served with? Extra portions should be served in a bowl on the side because that’s how tasty it was!
Caramelized Lamb Chops with a Mushroom Bolognese. Deliciously cooked lamb chops – the only thing I would want more would be more of a sauce so that it’s not too dry. The lamb was also served with some of the creamiest mashed potato ever (and I’m not even a huge fan of mashed potato) and roasted asparagus.
We finally moved on to the last (and kinda most important) course of them all – dessert. We got to try three because as you know, one isn’t ever enough.
Blueberry and lemon tart. I’m personally not a fan of lemon in dessert but those that do enjoy it, didn’t seem to complain
Tres Leches Cake with Cherry Meringue. SO here is the only thing with this one. I love, love, love tres leches (which I have mentioned before). And I’m old school. I’m never a fan of mixing things up with an old favourite. While the cake was delicious, the cherry meringue wasn’t a personal favorite.
AND the star of the evening – Salted Caramel Ice Cream Sundae with Candied Peanuts and Popcorn. Two words – must try!
I really do want to make it back to JG Kitchen given there are so many things on the menu I would love to try (read fried chicken with a side of creamed corn).
Have you had a chance to stop by JG Kitchen yet? Did the salted-caramel goodness blow your mind as well?
LOCATION – Four Season Resort Dubai, Jumeirah Beach Road.
DISCLOSURE: We were invited to this menu tasting by the awesome peeps at TOH PR. As always, all opinions are our own.
