Mythos Kouzina and Grill

One of the most wonderful things about blogging is being a part of this community of people who share our passion for good food and love of all things eating. Through many a blogger events, we’ve had the opportunity to meet a bunch of bloggers (surprisingly all women!) who have the same enthusiasm as us for discovering new restaurants, sharing ideas, trying different cuisines, and all the while, finding ways in which we can better ourselves and our blogs.

We try and catch-up every so often and so last week for one of these much anticipated evenings, we chose to visit the recently opened Mythos Kouzina and Grill, which is the second restaurant opened by the owners of Elia, another fantastic Greek eatery in Bur Dubai – one of my all-time favourites!

Derived from ancient Greek, the word Mythos means word, speech or a saying. In later literature, it refers to a story or a tale based on individual experiences. For a catch-up with Carla, Sumati, Rowan and Nadia, this group of lovely, ambitious, like-minded food-nerds, each a story-teller in her own unique way – it was only fitting that we met at this beautiful new place.

Located on the park level of Armada BlueBay Hotel in Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT), it’s quite a task to get there if you’re unfamiliar with the area. Walking in however, you could well be in Greece as you are transported to a charming little tavern, especially if you go in the evening as we did. Pinpoints of carbon filaments hanging from the ceiling pull you into the space. Similar to its predecessor Elia, the clever use of lighting, white furniture off-set with baby blue tones, cane seats, and stone washed walls makes it an intimate, rustic chic setting.

The food is authentic and true to Greek flavours, I’d imagine it does full justice to its Mediterranean heritage. Here’s what we tried and recommend you do to.

(L-R) Tzatziki – yoghurt dip with dill, cucumber and garlic, Fava with capers and diced onions, Spanakopita – Spinach and cheese filo pie

kofte

Tomato Kefta

Baked feta cheese in a parchment paper with tomato and herbs. No photo as it is certainly not a good looking dish but SO delicious.

Grilled octopus marinated in white vinegar

Moussaka with eggplant, minced lamb and beef in a béchamel sauce

lamb

Charcoal grilled lamb chops served with fries and yoghurt sauce

We also tried the Pork Souvlaki skewers. Yep – they serve pork. Again, no photo but a must try!

For dessert, we tried the Galaktoboureko, a mixture of custard, milk and vanilla topped with filo pastry

Service was efficient without being intrusive. Our server especially knew the menu well, and this was useful as he helped us pick what to order – a selection which we were all very happy with. The only downside might have to be that parking in JLT is AED 200 if you stay a minute over 3 hours. While that might be ample time for lunch or dinner, we lost track of time chatting away and when we remembered, it was 10 minutes to, making our exit extremely rushed! If there’s something that can be done about that, it would be perfect!

On the evening we were there (mid-week, mind you), the restaurant was buzzing with diners. The decor is beautiful, romantic and inviting, and as a plus, the food is fantastic. Mythos is well on its way to becoming a local favourite, with or without the impending alcohol license. I’m already smitten!

Have you been to Mythos and did you like it?

LOCATION – Jumeirah Lake Towers, Cluster P, Park level, connected to Armada BlueBay Hotel.
