There are some places that like the flair and the fireworks, and then there are others that are stripped down and like to keep it as simple as possible so that people can go in and focus on the important thing – Food. And Retro Feasts falls into the latter category.
As a space, I loved it. It is simple and smart but still so pretty. I loved the use of old cereal boxes and the like for wallpaper and poster art in gorgeous vintage photo frames. It made me want to sit inside even though it was a beautiful day out and this place is right on the beach!
We started, as any smart person would, with chocolate milkshakes. In hindsight, we should have gotten one with two straws because there are decedent and oh-so-rich. I couldn’t make it through mine, but oh well – you only live once!
Coronation Crab Poppadoms. These were a surprise. The curried yogurt with mango on proper poppadoms = winner.
I learnt from some Irish friends that fish finger sandwiches are their childhood favorite. I’d never had a fish finger sandwich before this and oh boy! It sure won’t be my last! Also – I’m not a fan of mushy peas but if there was one way I will have it, this would be it!
The Retro Chicken Burger. Buttermilk Fried Chicken. Peanut Slaw. Sriracha Mayo. All in all – super.STAR. Also – those fries on the side are cheesy fries. Because again, you only live once.
If you are looking for a simple and easy affair with some comfort food, head on over here and have yourself a little feast!
