I’ve always been a little skeptical about “health food” places. Not because I don’t trust that the food won’t be tasty but simply because I’ve wondered how full the food would keep you. I’ve tried a couple of the healthy food places and I’m always left a wee bit hungry. I don’t know if it’s the smaller portions, the low calorie count, or if its just in my mind.
Since we’ve been trying so hard to eat right these days, I jumped on board when Right Bite Express asked if I would be interested in a three-day lunch and dinner trial. Right Bite Express is the latest service from healthy caterer Right Bite (known for personalised meal plans). It’s an on-demand food delivery service, just like ordering fast food, only that it’s healthy – perfect for calorie-counting and weight loss. I packed a LOT of snacks in my bag for day one, because I expected small portions and that I’d still be hungry. SO dramatic, I know. Anyway. I was proven wrong.
Here’s what I ate over three days and shows an assortment of dishes you can order. I was told I could pick a salad and a main, or a main and dessert for each meal. I didn’t know what the portion sizes were going to be and so, before we go any further, I’d like this to be a judgement-free zone. I didn’t realise the portions would be big so I did share some of my food. #justsaying
Day 1: Meal 1
Salad: Traditional Nicoise Salad. This was probably my least favorite as the three day meal plan on simply because I’m not an iceberg lettuce kinda girl. This bowl was large and FILLED with iceberg lettuce. It was also the moment I saw this salad that I realised these weren’t side salad portions but full salads.
Main Dish: Grilled Chicken with Potato Mash. This was my favorite main course of them all! Grilled chicken with a mushroom sauce and mashed potato. This was very delicious!
Day 1: Meal 2
Main Dish: Thai chicken curry + quinoa. It didn’t taste Thai to me, it was more like a north Indian curry. It was quite delicious that I forgot about the photo!
Dessert: Chocolate Pecan Fudge Brownie – was quite the treat!
Day 2: Meatless Monday, Meal 1
Salad: Oriental salad with grilled eggplant and feta
Main Dish: Vegetable lasagna – very tasty however, I just wished it was spicier!
Day 2: Meatless Monday, Meal 2
Salad: Quinoa Tabbouleh Salad. A classic that you can’t go wrong with in my book. This salad was fresh and is always one of my favourites.
Main Dish: Zucchini lasagna. A no-noodle lasagna. My first time ever having one of these and again, while tasty, I would have liked it spicier. Also – this stuff really can fill you up!
Day 3: Meal 1
Salad: Skinny Chicken Caesar. The only way I’ll have lettuce – is with Caesar dressing and this one was good.
Main Dish: Chicken burger. Grilled chicken on a whole wheat bun that came with a surprise- baked chips! Delish!
Day 3: Meal 2
Salad: Arugula salad with added boiled egg. I don’t know why I added the egg in all honesty. This salad is just fine on it’s own! The dressing had balsamic in it which is always a win!
Main Dish: Stir fry chicken noodles. These were thin, vermicelli noodles and the sauce was a little on the sweet side. I don’t know if this is against any rules but it was nothing some siracha couldn’t fix!
All in all, it was an extremely convenient three days – I dint have to think of what to eat everyday, the food was delivered just in time for lunch, and all meals were quite filling. There was in fact, no need for those snacks I packed on day 1! While I know a weight-loss or fitness based meal plan with Right Bite would be a completely different experience, it’s nice to know that this “Express” version exists, delivering a healthy meal to the office on days I’ve woken up too late to pack something for lunch!
And here’s another awesome bit of information – they not only deliver during Ramadan but also have a Iftar box for AED 70 – which includes dates, a main dish from the daily special, a side salad, soup (lentil, mushroom or broccoli), water and labneh. Another reason to pick up the phone and give this place a go!
DISCLOSURE – We received a three day meal service by Right Bite Express however, all opinions are our own.
