I practice Meatless Mondays. So that would mean no meat on Mondays – like not even eggs (while we can have the discussion about how eggs aren’t really meat, I’d rather not). Meatless Monday is very hard for me because I love chicken but it does force me to try and be a little healthy at least once a week. Also, salads aren’t my go-to ever, even on Mondays, but I’m trying to get better about eating them. I now know that if you look hard enough, you can find some pretty darn delicious salads that actually keep you full. This may be old news for most of you, it was like brand new information to me. Kinda.
On Monday last week, I decided to give The Salad Jar a go at work. When I voiced my decision at work, a couple more people jumped on for the ride. And it was quite the fresh, tasty, healthy ride.
First things first – you must order your salad the night before so that they can be made fresh and ready to go the following morning. They have two delivery times – 9:30AM- 11AM and 12PM-1:30PM. Since we eat lunch at noon more or less every day because we get “hangry” otherwise, and having some tough luck with a few delivery experiences at lunch time, I went with the earlier option, just to be safe. Our delivery arrived at 9:30AM Monday morning. Talk about good service! And that was even with me spelling the name of my company wrong on the app.
Speaking of the app – I’d recommend downloading it. The entire process was so simple because of the app (not that I think it would be incredibly difficult otherwise). Also, customer service in the event you get trigger happy while using the app and click “order” BEFORE typing in any special requests like I did, was awesome. I just called them in and told them what I wanted different.
Now on to the salads.
I went with the Southwestern which is black bean, white bean, corn, cucumber, tomato and avocado. I asked for it without cucumbers. The dressing is a fresh cilantro and olive oil with a ‘kick’. Whatever it is that they add to create that “kick” was delightful.
The Dillish – white bean, cucumber, whole wheat couscous, tomato, beets, asparagus, feta, kale and dill. The dressing was a mixed blend of herbs and olive oil dressing with a dash of dill. This salad was incredibly refreshing and the one bite I had, made me wish I had ordered this one too!
Sweet Beet – this one wins the name game. Halloumi, pomegranate, cucumber, beet, barley, date and spinach with a balsamic and honey dressing. This salad won the game of keeping the eater most full thanks to the barley and was over all very tasty and not as sweet as I thought it would be with the beets, honey and dates.
Overall, The Salad Jar delivered a most fresh and refreshing lunch. The only thing I would say is that if you like to eat as much as I do (especially at lunch), go with the large as opposed to the regular size if you would like something to keep you full longer.
Location: Delivery only. Order on the website or via The Salad Jar app.
