Three must try wine and cheese experiences in Dubai

Tuesday nights in Dubai are synonymous with ladies night. If you’re over the sugary cocktails or free-flowing, headache inducing bubbly all-night deals, read on. We’ve recently discovered some fabulous deals featuring the glorious, refined world of wine and cheese. Nothing pretentious or wine snob like, just something to celebrate that you’re half way through the week, to relax, unwind, and catch-up with friends over a nice glass of wine (or five). Here are three of our favourite places for wine and cheese deals in Dubai that you must check out.

Solo Bistronomia and Vinobar, located in the iconic Raffles Hotel hosts ‘Genius Loci’, meaning perfect pairings, every Tuesday night. Arguably one of the nicest evenings we’ve had in a long time, this experience was as much an education in wine pairings as it was a laidback, relaxing one.

Before we commenced, Marina, the in-house sommelier and manager of Solo’s Vinobar, talked us through what the experience would entail. We were instructed to work our way from right to left, both with the wines and the cheeses, to appreciate the variation of mild to strong flavours. We also played around a little bit, jumping from full-bodied to light to citrusy and everything in between. Our perfect pairings that evening included a full-bodied chardonnay from the US, with flavours of banana compote, pears, and tropical fruits, paired with a creamy taleggio. Another pairing that went down well was the Inzolia, a grape from Sicily which has a lot of minerality due to the volcanic salts found in the region of Sicily (see what you learn?). It matched perfectly with tomini, a goat’s cheese that has a higher acidic flavour which complements the wine’s citrus flavour. My favourite however had to be the blue cheese and Moscato pairing; I’m a dessert girl after all!

The offerings are on rotation so if you go a couple of times, you’re bound to get a different experience each time. At only AED 120 per person for five wines + five cheeses, there’s not an experience in Dubai that beats this.

Genius Loci – Tuesday from 6pm onwards. AED 120.

A sophisticated wine bar located on the mezzanine level of the Conrad Hotel, Cave hosts an evening of fine wines every Tuesday, with a buffet spread of artisanal cheese, charcuterie and conserves. The spread includes a range of succulent cured and smoked cold cuts including salami from Napoli, iberico chorizo from Spain, artisan cheeses including manchego, brie de meaux and fourme d’ambert. Also included with the food is a choice of freshly baked bread, olives marinated in-house and a selection of pickles.

The spread is truly phenomenal; imagine you are in a Parisian fromagerie and charcuterie on Rue de la Paix, and for a fixed price, you can help yourself to whatever you like, all the while wearing heels and balancing a glass of vino in one hand.

If you’re there with the girls, you can hang out by the bar. If you’re with a group of friends, opt for booth seating, and if you’re with your beau, kick your shoes off and cozy up on a lounge bed.

This cheese and wine night is effortlessly chic – I’d go back for date nights or a weekday celebration.

Meat the Cheese –Tuesday from 7pm till 11pm. AED 245.

Cave, Conrad Hotel, Sheikh Zayed Road

If you hang out with my husband and I, you probably know that we have a massive soft spot for Wafi restaurants. And why not? It’s been around for decades and has some superb restaurants which never get their share of the limelight like other restaurants on social media do. Vintage is one such gem, a quaint little wine and cheese bar located on the first floor of the Pyramids (Dubai, not Egypt!). They have a large collection of specialty wines and over 30 cheeses (depending on the season) but what I’m most a fan of is their fondue nights on Sundays and Mondays, with unlimited selected wine and cheese fondue for AED 145 per person. Also on Wednesday nights, they offer a ham and cheese buffet with unlimited selected wine for AED 185 per person.

Why limit the fun to Tuesdays right?

If you pop by any day of the week, you can always order a cheese board, cheese or even chocolate fondue. Dreamy!

Fondue nights – Saturday and Sunday, 7-10pm. AED 140.

Ham and cheese buffet – Wednesday, 7-10pm. AED 185.

Fondue any day of the week – AED 180.

Vintage, Pyramids at Wafi, Oud Metha

As always – drink responsibly! Uber, Careem, Safe Driver – they are your friends!

DISCLOSURE: We were guests of Cave but ate and drank our way through Solo and Vintage several times at our own expense. As always, all opinions are our own.
