Oh hello! Thanks for stopping by. It’s been ages and I’d almost forgotten this little space existed. This blog, something Namrata and I created many years ago.
‘Forgotten’ may not be the right word. Three months ago, I packed up my life in Dubai and moved to Toronto. Literally the other side of the world. Some friends have asked what’s happening with the blog? Whats going to happen to She said, She said? All legit questions, something I’ve been trying not to think about. Hoping it’ll go away if I ignore it long enough.
She said, She said has been a huge part of my identity for the last seven years. My passion project, a side hustle. While I have an ongoing love-hate relationship with Instagram (and social media), this blog has been my pride and joy. Something Namrata and I dreamt up one afternoon. I remember that day so clearly: We were in my bedroom, Nams was on the bed, scrolling through her phone, I was folding laundry. It suddenly dawned on us that our phones were full of food photos – and there were no longer any pictures of us, of our faces. Just lots of photos of plates filled with food, hands holding coffee cups, and shopfronts: restaurants and coffee shops that were cropping up across Dubai. And so She said, She said was born!
From what started as a platform to share our favourite eats in Dubai to meeting the loveliest food community, famous celebrity chefs, and superstar local chefs who are well on their way to global stardom. All the food tastings, dinner invites, brand collaborations, award nominations and international trips… it’s all been surreal ♡ Easily one of the funnest, coolest things we did together – and trust me there have been many team projects we struggled to get through in high school! Not this, this was so fun. And I’m so grateful I got to share this experience with my best friend. I wouldn’t do it with anyone else, and could not do it without her.
So what’s next? I’m in this new city with a whole new world out there to explore. I’ve to say, Toronto has been pretty fantastic so far. If you’re following on Instagram, you’ll see that I’ve wasted no time and have hit the ground running – visiting coffee shops, bakeries, and restaurants around the city. Some friends have even suggested I’ve been to more cafes in three months than they’ve been to in the many years they’ve lived here! LOL
This is so me. My jam, my vibe. Exploring new cities in search of good food, great coffee, finding little cafes to take my laptop to and work, or a corner to read and people watch. I love it and love sharing details with others.
With Namrata and I now living in different time zones, it means that there’ll be lots more Canadian content on here going forward. Namrata’s also taking a backseat to pursue more “doctorly” things, Yep, she’s working on getting a PHD ya’ll! And she’s making music over at CoverStory DXB – so she’s a pretty busy bee. Do join me in wishing her, the future Dr. Namrata Kamath the very best as she sets out on the wildest journey to achieve many amazing things.
I’ll be attempting to update the blog on my own for a while. The adventures continue so stay tuned for a mixed bag of all my favourite places to eat in Toronto (and wider Canada) + road trips with itineraries when travel resumes. I’m looking forward to meeting local chefs, bakers, and small business owners to share their stories, as well as other food and travel bloggers from the community. Finally, I’ve also been dabbling in the kitchen so expect easy recipes (Nothing more than 5 ingredients or steps – that’s just too complicated!)
